Of all types of flooring, carpet gets the dirtiest most quickly. If you want to replace your carpet, he might want to think about updating it to a lower maintenance product. Many people gladly remove carpet and replace it with laminate products. Regardless of the product you choose, floor remodeling can be a very expensive project. Most significant cost is that of the removal of your old product and installation of your new product. This article explains how you can save a little bit of money by removing your old carpet before professionals come in and install your new product.

Removing Carpet

Removing carpet is fairly simple, but you need to be up to the physical nature of the work.  That is, ripping the carpet up and carrying it out of the house can be demanding. Furthermore, you need to get down on your hands and knees and do a lot of physical work. The first thing you need to remove carpet is a hammer with a normal claw back. You need to find an edge of carpet that you can peel up, then claw it with a hammer and lift it up with force. You may need to force it up to get the carpet off of the tack strips. As you remove the carpet from the floor, you will need a sharp utility knife to cut it into manageable pieces that you can carry out of the house.

Once the carpet is off the floor, you need to remove the tack strips. These can be a little difficult to remove, depending on what kind of subfloor you have. Removing carpet tack strips from concrete subfloors is easy because you just need a hammer. Just strike the side of the strip, and the nails should pop right out of the concrete. To remove the strips from the wooden subfloor, you will also need a chisel. Hammer the chisel under the tack strip and pry it away from the ground.

At this point, all you need to do now is to sweep and vacuum your floor. You can now call in the professional installers, the matter what you're having installed and let them know that your floor is essentially 100% ready for the new product. Depending on what they're installing, there might be a little bit more prep work that they need to do. Nonetheless, by removing your old carpet yourself, you are going to save a nice percentage of the project.

About Me
Choosing Better Flooring

After we started renovating our home, I realized that we needed to choose flooring that would be a little more kid-friendly. We had been using cream-colored carpet, but it didn't stand up well against the children at all. Within no time, the carpet was gray, dingy, and stained from foot traffic. To ward off problems in the future, we opted for a dark-colored hardwood flooring that already looked distressed. After it was installed, we were amazed with how incredible it looked. This blog is for anyone out there who has children and is thinking about buying new flooring for their home.
