When you are either remodeling or building a house from the ground up, you get to pick all of the finishes inside of your home. While there are some things like cabinet hardware and lighting that are easy to fix out if you don't like them, there are other things that are much more permanent like the flooring. To ensure that you pick the right flooring options for your home, there are a few different trends that you may want to consider.

Get Hardwood Throughout

If you like a more traditional and cohesive look, then consider having hardwood flooring installed throughout your entire home. Something like French white oak hardwood flooring throughout your entire house will give it a more streamlined appearance and can make smaller spaces look much larger. When you go with a lighter wood flooring, it is less likely to show dirt, is very trendy right now, and will also brighten up just about any sized space.

Consider Accent Flooring

If you like to have a little bit of fun with pattern play, then consider throwing in some accent flooring throughout your home. While you can have hardwood flooring throughout the majority of your home, adding accent flooring in rooms such as your mudroom, bathrooms, and laundry rooms can be a really fun way for you to get to add some color and character to your home. When choosing accent flooring, consider a few different trends such as:

  • Cement Tile Flooring: This type of flooring looks like hand-painted tiles that come in a variety of different patterns and colors.
  • Hexagon Flooring: All sizes of hexagon flooring are in style right now including the really small ones and large ones. When choosing hexagon flooring, go with a more neutral color like black, white, or gray.
  • Large Slate Tiles: If you want something a bit more modern looking, consider getting large rectangular slate tiles that come in a variety of colors including gray or white. This type of flooring will add a bit of a modern flair to just about any space.

Don't Forget Carpeting

While wood flooring is great to have all throughout your main living space, it's not something that everyone likes in their bedrooms. Consider getting carpeting in your bedrooms and on the stairs to help add a bit of warmth and comfort to your space.

About Me
Choosing Better Flooring

After we started renovating our home, I realized that we needed to choose flooring that would be a little more kid-friendly. We had been using cream-colored carpet, but it didn't stand up well against the children at all. Within no time, the carpet was gray, dingy, and stained from foot traffic. To ward off problems in the future, we opted for a dark-colored hardwood flooring that already looked distressed. After it was installed, we were amazed with how incredible it looked. This blog is for anyone out there who has children and is thinking about buying new flooring for their home.
